This was such an amazing experience, to be able to see your baby up close and get an early glimps of how they look. Melanie was so lovely and made the whole experience so memorable for us, we could not thank her enough. The images are amazing even if our little man was camera shy, Melanie didn't give up. FAQ's

There is currently no evidence to suggest that ultrasound is harmful to humans, including the developing fetus.
However at Baby Grows our approach to using ultrasound safely, is to use the lowest output power and the shortest scan time that is required to gain the information for the purpose of the scan. This is known as the ALARA Principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
We are fully trained & qualified in the use of the ultrasound equipment.

There is plenty of free parking. We are situated in the main building, Prospect House. Please enter the main reception, take a seat and one of us will come to meet you when it’s time for your appointment. The clinic is on the First Floor and accessed via stairs, there is no disabled access. Once you are comfortable in our waiting area:

  • We will ask you to read your booking/consent form and sign if you are happy.
  • You can then relax whilst we prepare for your scan.
  • In the scan room is where you’ll get to see your beautiful baby. A female chaperone will be present if a transvaginal scan is required (we will always discuss this with you at the time).
  • After your scan you will have the opportunity to chat with us about your pregnancy (if you wish). Who better to ask than a Midwife?!
  • This is YOUR scan appointment, you can ask ANY questions at ANY time.

Yes of course. We have Smoke Cannons, Confetti Cannons, Crackers & Scratch Cards  for your gender reveal celebrations.
You can also purchase the sound of your baby’s heartbeat in a teddy bear…..What a precious gift for grandparents

Ultrasound scans at Baby Grows are not to detect abnormalities. We do however, take our duty of care very seriously and uphold our values of openness and honesty, therefore, if we suspect a problem, we will discuss our findings with you and refer you directly to your NHS care provider for appropriate follow up.

We will do our very best to accommodate you, however we feel it only fair that others should not have to have their appointment delayed unnecessarily. We will always make every effort to honour your booking that same day, but it may be that you will need to return later that day, or another day if necessary.

If you are less than 20 weeks, you will usually need a full bladder. If you are more than 20 weeks, a full bladder is not required.
To fill your bladder, drink almost a pint of water about 45 minutes prior to your appointment.

A fetal heart beat can be detected from around 5 ½ to 6 weeks. That is why we don’t offer scans before then. Sometimes though, at 6, 7 or even 8 weeks, it can be difficult to see your baby clearly and determine a heart beat, for reasons such as; empty bladder, bowel gas, scar tissue, a higher BMI (body mass index). If this is the case and we felt we could give you more information from an internal scan (Transvaginal), then we’d offer you that method.

But please remember, you will never have to do anything you don’t want to, and if you choose not to have the transvaginal scan, we’ll arrange a follow up scan for you (using the abdominal method).

Most women will be begin to feel their baby move between 16 and 24 week of pregnancy. Over time you should get used to your baby’s pattern or routine. If you ever notice a change in that pattern or feel the movements aren’t as often, or any concerns at all, the first thing you should do is contact the Pregnancy Assessment Unit at the Hospital where you are booked to have your baby. If, after you’ve been assessed by your NHS care provider and all is well, but you would still like a scan with us, we can offer you an appointment.

Please note however, that scan would be to check for a fetal heart beat and ease your anxiety. It can not be a substitute for a clinical assessment and care plan provided by your NHS Maternity Care provider.

Every scan you have with us, we will always check your baby first. This check includes; observing your baby’s heartbeat, their movements, the fluid around them & the placenta (depending on gestation). We don’t routinely take measurements (other than to date your pregnancy). However if you would like to know your baby’s estimated weight, after 28 weeks, we can do this for you.
